The first day of summer vacation always calls for something special. For my kids, that means a trip to Dairy Queen. We live just a few minutes from our local DQ, and during summer, it’s basically our second home. This year, we kicked things off with their favorite chocolate-dipped vanilla cones. But I had my eyes set on something new—and very blue.
What’s the Hype About?
Dairy Queen just dropped a brand-new Blizzard, and it’s already stealing the show. It’s called the Superman Cake Batter Cookie Dough Blizzard and it’s this month’s Blizzard of the Month. The flavor is a nod to the new Superman movie coming out this July.
I’m a food writer who loves sweet things, so trying new menu items is kind of my job (and also my joy). When I heard about this bright blue Blizzard packed with cookie dough and cake batter flavor, I knew I had to try it.
My First Spoonful
I ordered it at the DQ in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. The blue color caught my attention right away. It looks fun and definitely screams summer. One bite in, and I was hooked. Seriously, I think this might be the best Blizzard I’ve ever had.
The soft serve tastes like rich vanilla cake batter. If you’ve ever licked the spoon while baking, you’ll get that same nostalgic taste here. Then come the cookie dough bites—soft, chewy, and just the right size. They don’t get lost in the mix like in some blended desserts. I’m picky about that, and this one got it right.
I’m not a big sprinkle fan usually, but I actually liked them here. They added a nice crunch that balanced the creamy texture of the soft serve and the dough.
A Local Favorite Already
While I was there, I chatted with Joyce, the co-owner of the franchise. She said the Superman Blizzard has already become one of the top sellers—even though it just launched. She also mentioned how the S’Mores Blizzard and Dipped Strawberry Cheesecake are always customer favorites. But this new one? Flying off the menu.
If you’re curious, DQ describes it as “a riveting combination of sugar cookie dough, cake batter flavor and sprinkles blended with DQ world-famous soft serve.” And yeah, that description is pretty spot on.
How Long Will It Be Around?
This Blizzard is only here for a limited time, and while no end date has been announced, the Superman movie doesn’t hit theaters until July 11. Fingers crossed they keep it at least through summer. It deserves more than just a short spotlight.
